THE MEETUP POST

unless some things drastically change, it doesn't look like i'm going to be able to feasibly make it to ANY festivals this summer. :( which i'm entirely gutted about, because summer festivals in england means getting to see a lot of my friends, and they are the one thing i look forward to every summer. but it doesn't look like it's going to happen.

so before i fly home for the summer, i'd really really like to see people at least just once. it feels like nothing proper has happened since i've moved here, as far as meetups go. i've actually gotten to see people less since i moved here than when i came over to visit twice a year  and i'm afraid that if nothing happens before june, then i'll have to go back to california having not seen anybody, and then there'll probably be something arranged over the summer when i'm not here and i wont get to go (again), and be sad. god i sound so selfish :?

i want something to happen, but i don't know how to make it happen (since obviously it wont happen in norwich). i was thinking april would be good. i have a whole month from 19th march to 17th april off of uni, and i'm pretty sure a lot of uni-goers have that month off as well... or at least people should have time off for easter.

to make up for the lack of festivals, it would be nice to have an entire meetup WEEKEND. one day is never enough. i think maybe birmingham or thereabouts would be good, since it seems to have been good in the past.

this will probably just fade away like the rest of the meetup posts, but i really want to make something happen. if anyone is willing to help me plan it, i'll do everything i can.

Well. The last ever Vender gig is in Birmingham on march 19th so I was planning on being there for that.......maybe people could come to that and then do some stuff the next day? That would be cool as the gig is to raise money for Jo's Hubby Mark and Michael Clarke to run the marathon I do believe.

um, i'm off 17th march to 10th april i think, but it depends on money and stuff, and if i get a job and la de da. but i should be able to make it. as long as it's not too far away or whatnot. i think i might be in notts over most of my easter.

I don't think I can get anymore time off work because I'm doing gigs in Paris at the beginning of September for a weekend and possibly a Saturday at Reading for the Pixies but I can probably come up on a Saturday evening and stay till the Sunday, which means that Birmingham is about as far as I can make I think. Easter holidays are March 19 - April 3 for me. I'd love to help organise but seeing as today I've just taken a day off school in an attempt to get some sleep because of all the work I've had on I don't think it would be possible, especially because of hardcore revision beginning in about March till about June...

sounds great to me!

but... my easter holiday is march 18-april 18 (or something like that) and the first weekend is my sisters hen night, the second weekend is the wedding, i'm going back to leeds early (i think) and at some point i need to move house. but i will try hella hard to make it, wherever and whenever it is.

I don't really have a preference for when it is, as long as someone reminds I'll try and make it, it'd be cool.

Who'd be up for organising it?

ok i had a brilliant idea... might as well put it here instead of a new post since this is already stickied.

does anyone know anybody who owns a small (as in not loads of people there all the time) bar/pub? preferably an indie/rock-ish type one. i was thinking about how successful clo's party was where she knew somebody who worked for a bar, who was willing to let her bring a bunch of people one night and play her own cd's. if anyone has any connections to a place like that, i think it would be perfect for a meet-up. we'd have a big enough place to socialise and be as loud as we want, access to a bar, and get to hear (and possibly dance to ;)) our own choice of music. yet it wouldn't be as hard or expensive as organising a private function room for a band and stuff, like in the past.

and i still think it would make the most sense to have it in the birmingham area, but i'm open to suggestions if anyone has connections anywhere else... as long as it's central enough for people to travel to, and there's enough floor space or cheap places to stay the night in the area.

what do you guys think?

hmmmm... ok then.

does anybody know of a pub near them with a really really tiny room that can be hired, and has some sort of sound system in it that plays cd's? (doesn't need to have a stage or anything).

i'm out of ideas.

it's a pub in cambridge that has a reallyreally small back room, i saw miss black america there, and cursive/appleseed cast with toby.. but then i dunno where anyone would stay etc :s it's small enough for us not to feel like losers though ;)

yeh, small and cozy is good, for us :)

i have no idea how good the train lines/busses are in cambridge though. and i'd imagine it wouldn't have too many cheap hotels or b&b's since cambridge is pretty ritzy. i could be wrong though?

surely there's got to be something similar in the midlands somewhere....

Oooh one of my friends is at cambridge uni so I could combine a meetup with visiting her :D that would be cool!

Sadly, I have just got a job which means working saturdays.......but if I know long enough in advance I could probably get the night off.
