Josh and Steve from The Dum Dums
Late afternoon drinkers in Southampton had a musical accompaniment
to their pints as pop band The Dum Dums brought their
promotional signing tour to the City with an impromptu
pub gig.
A lucky fan with Josh and Stuart
The demand to see the three lads from London was so great
that their acoustic set had to be moved from a High Street
record store to a city centre pub. The band have played
the school assembly hall circuit and Saturday morning
kids TV. Plenty of their younger fans turned up to hear
their brand of punk and pop. There was still a queue well
out into the high street as the band returned to the Tower
Records store to sign copies of their CD - "It Goes Without
Saying", as well as posters and various bits of clothing.
Fans wait to see The Dum Dums
Their current single is only 150 copies short of Martine
McCutcheon's latest release in the battle for chart supremacy
- so every sale counts. To this end, the band have spent
the last 10 days in a promotional frenzy - crisscrossing
the country and meeting their fans in record shops in
an attempt to beat Martine.
Josh in action
It's been quite a year for the threesome - five months
after their first release, they played in front of 72,000
people supporting Jon Bon Jovi at Wembley Stadium. The
band are also mates with Robbie Williams whose melodic
rock influence are apparent in their short set. The boys
are jetsetting for a while - Japan and the States beckon.
By the end of the year they will have a new album out
and are promising a return visit to Southampton.
